Seeing Montserrat is a must when visiting Barcelona. But why not change a typical tourist visit into a once-in-a-lifetime running experience?

On this morning run, we avoid the crowd and enjoy striking trail running in one of the most acclaimed historical and natural sites in Spain.

In the morning, a guide picks you up at the meeting point in central Barcelona. From here, we take you to the Montserrat Monastery by an air-conditioned van in a quick 1-hour drive.

When we arrive, you first have time to visit the Monastery to see the famous Black Madonna statue before all the tourists arrive. After, we begin our running trip with a scenic ride in a funicular to the top of the mountain. As we climb, you can take in sweeping views of the Monastery and the complex rock formations.

The route itself is 8 km (5 miles) usually takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. We start running from the top of the hill, mostly descending on the way back. Because we start at the top, the elevation profile isn’t too challenging, giving you opportunities to enjoy the sites.

Along the trail are magnificent rock formations, tall rock needles (world famous among rock climbers), and intricate paths. We discover ancient shrines, explore magical hidden places, and even enjoy views from the highest point of the mountain.

We finish the run back at the Monastery where you have free time to take pictures, buy souvenirs, and stretch out those muscles. When everybody is ready, we drive back to Barcelona, arriving around 2:00 p.m.

Discover the extraordinary landscape of Montserrat with the experience of running freely through Spain’s incredible nature.

NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

We run with groups of 2-12 people. There is no limitation for private groups.

We run every day, all year round.

We usually start the trip at 8:15 a.m. to avoid crowds and finish around 2:00 p.m. The run itself takes about 1.5-2 hours, depending on your fitness and how many stops you wish to make to admire the views.

The running doesn’t include any technical difficulty, but reasonable physical fitness is required. Total running distance is 8 km (5 miles) and total elevation gain is around 300 meters (900 feet).
